Louise Culbertson, inspired by the Parkland tragedy, began her political activism at 10, organizing a gun law demonstration in Marfa. At 15, she expanded her activism to reproductive rights, planning rallies across Texas while living in Paris during summers. Supported by Deeds Not Words, she arranged protests in multiple cities, advocating for reproductive freedom.
Her upbringing in a politically engaged household fueled her passion. Her parents, strong Democrats, instilled a deep interest in politics and activism. The family’s time in France granted Culbertson an exceptional education and exposure to diverse activism opportunities.
In Marfa, a liberal enclave in conservative Texas, Culbertson found support from groups like the Big Bend Reproductive Coalition. She connected with Deeds Not Words through Instagram, seeking mentorship and guidance, showcasing her determination and intelligence in organizing events despite her young age.
Though turnouts varied, Culbertson’s perseverance and Deeds Not Words’ support reinforced the idea that even the youngest activists can drive change. Her goal remains to raise awareness about Texas’ stringent abortion laws, vowing to persist until change is realized.
