Minor 3.4 Magnitude Earthquake Jolts Orange County

“Orange County Area Shaken by 3.4 Magnitude Earthquake on Friday Night
A seismic event measuring 3.4 on the Richter scale hit the Orange County vicinity on Friday night, prompting questions like ‘Did you feel it?’ The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported the quake striking at approximately 9:52 p.m.
Located about 1.8 miles southeast of Huntington Beach, the earthquake’s epicenter emerged in a heavily populated area. Its depth was recorded at roughly 7.7 miles below the surface, as per USGS data.
As of now, there have been no immediate reports of injuries or significant structural damage caused by the tremor.
California experiences numerous seismic activities annually, with a majority being of negligible intensity. However, the state does witness several quakes surpassing a magnitude of 3.0. According to the California Department of Conservation, the most potent earthquake ever recorded in the state measured 7.9 magnitude and struck Fort Tejon on January 9, 1857.
