Violent Robbery: Taco Truck Worker Attacked by Armed Assailants in Long Beach

Armed Thieves Target Taco Truck, Assault Employee in Long Beach
A distressing incident unfolded at Los Bros Tacos in Long Beach as armed thieves stormed the taco truck, leaving the family operating the establishment deeply shaken. Surveillance footage captured the masked assailants invading the truck on December 16 while Manuel Antonio was busy working in the kitchen.
Recalling the harrowing experience through a Spanish translator, Antonio recounted how the sudden appearance of the thieves, masked and armed, took him by surprise while he was engaged in food preparation. The video depicts two individuals entering the truck, brandishing a firearm, and cornering Antonio.
As Antonio attempted to signal the truck’s owner for cash from the register, one of the assailants swiftly snatched Antonio’s phone from his back pocket. In a sudden and violent turn, Antonio was struck by one of the attackers, causing him to collapse to the ground. The perpetrators fled the scene with an undisclosed sum of money from the register.
Expressing his fear and shock, Antonio admitted feeling terrified throughout the ordeal, especially when confronted with the assailants’ weapon. Los Bros Taco truck, situated on Junipero Avenue and 7th Street, has been a family-owned business for approximately five years, though it only recently commenced operations at the Long Beach location two months ago.
Truck owner Augustine Flores expressed his dismay over the unsettling incident, noting that the area had previously seemed secure, but now uncertainty looms after the traumatic robbery. The robbery was witnessed by Flores’ wife and 9-year-old son inside the truck, while his other son, Yostin Flores, was just outside.
Reflecting on the distressing situation, Yostin recalled the fear of a potentially dire outcome and the necessity to protect his family during the robbery.
Despite the trauma, Augustine emphasized the necessity of persevering through work, particularly during the busy holiday season, to meet financial obligations such as rent, gas, and insurance. He expressed gratitude that no one sustained serious injuries during the incident.
A GoFundMe campaign has been initiated to assist in recovering the stolen money, Antonio’s phone, and to cover potential medical expenses.
Local authorities are actively investigating the surveillance footage while the gunmen responsible for the attack remain at large.
