Oxnard Faces Severe Weather: Flooding and Early-Morning Tornado Warning Amid Storm

Ventura County Grapples with Severe Flooding and Tornado Warning Due to Slow-Moving Storm
A sluggish storm system unleashed heavy rainfall across parts of Ventura County, resulting in significant flooding and an unexpected tornado warning on Thursday morning. The deluge inundated regions of Oxnard, Port Hueneme, and Ventura, causing challenges for emergency responders as they struggled to address reports of flooded homes and businesses.
Distressing visuals depicted vehicles trapped in several feet of water at the intersection of West Channel Islands Boulevard and South J. Street during Thursday morning’s downpour.
The Oxnard Fire Department issued a cautionary advisory urging drivers to avoid city streets whenever possible. They highlighted the risks posed by standing water, cautioning that it could lead to vehicle stalling and potential entrapment.
The rainfall intensity prompted the National Weather Service to issue a tornado warning for Oxnard and Ventura shortly before 1:30 a.m., although there were no confirmed reports of a tornado touching down in the area. At certain points, precipitation levels reached over 3 inches within just an hour at various locations.
The overwhelming rainfall created hazardous conditions across Ventura County, necessitating caution and urging residents to stay vigilant in the face of such extreme weather.
