Train-Semi Truck Collision Leaves Five Hospitalized


Five individuals were hospitalized following a collision involving an Amtrak train and a semi-truck in Ventura County on Tuesday evening, prompting traffic disruption and temporary suspension of train services, as per authorities’ reports.
The incident transpired in Somis, an unincorporated area of Ventura County, around 6:20 p.m. on State Route 118 at Sand Canyon Road, according to the California Highway Patrol’s communication on social media.
Footage captured by us displayed heavy traffic congestion in both directions post-collision. Ventura County Firefighters swiftly responded to the scene, aiding passengers in safely disembarking the train and providing assistance to the injured.
Reports from fire officials indicated that the five individuals transported to local hospitals sustained minor to moderate injuries.
Specific details regarding the cause of the collision between the semi-truck and Amtrak’s Pacific Surfliner, en route to South Los Angeles with 95 passengers and five crew members, remain unclear. However, CHP confirmed at least one train car had derailed without obstructing the roadway.
Amtrak announced the temporary suspension of the Pacific Surfliner between Moorpark and Camarillo until Wednesday morning due to the disabled train blocking the tracks. Commuters were advised to contact 800-USA-Rail for reservation assistance.
CHP anticipated the complete closure of State Route 118 between Balcom Canyon Road and State Route 34 (Somis Road) until the early hours of Wednesday for the removal of the semi-truck and necessary roadway repairs.
Motorists were urged to avoid the area and seek alternative routes.
