“Injury Caused by Falling Debris: Firefighter Incident in Brockton”

A Brockton firefighter sustained injuries during a response to a fire that broke out on Waverly Street on Monday. The incident occurred when debris from a burned structure fell on the firefighter.
The Brockton Fire Department swiftly reacted to the blaze, reported just after 11 a.m. Fire Chief Brian Nardelli described encountering “heavy fire” originating from the second floor and extending to the third floor of the building.
The severity of the fire prompted it to escalate to a 2-alarm level. Initially, there were reports of a person trapped on the third floor. However, after a thorough search, firefighters confirmed that no one was inside. Shortly thereafter, the individual reported as trapped was found outside, as per Nardelli’s statement.
During the response, a cameraperson from 25 News captured the moment when a firefighter was hit by falling debris. In the footage, the firefighter exited the building alongside colleagues before being struck on the head and falling. Immediate assistance was rendered by other firefighters, who surrounded their injured team member. The injured firefighter was then transported via stretcher to an ambulance parked nearby.
Nardelli provided an update in the afternoon, mentioning that the firefighter hit by the debris was reported to be “OK” but remained hospitalized for further evaluation.
By Monday afternoon, the fire had been successfully extinguished. Officials are actively investigating the cause of the fire.
