 Muneeba scores maiden ton as Pakistan beat Ireland

Left-handed opener Muneeba Ali scored a record-setting century to help Pakistan defeat Ireland in ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in Cape Town on Wednesday. 

Muneeba scored 102 runs off 68 balls, which included 14 fours, to take the green shirts to 165-5 in 20 overs. 

All-rounder Nida Dar also contributed 33 runs, laced with two boundaries and a six. 

Arlene Kelly bagged two wickets for Ireland. 

Later on, Nashra Sandhu led Pakistan’s bowling from the front and helped her team bowl out Ireland for 95. Pakistan won the match by 70 runs after Nashra bagged four wickets for 18 runs in four overs. 

Nida and Sadia Iqbal took two wickets each while Fatima Sana and Tuba Hassan shared a wicket apiece. 

Orla Prendergast scored highest 31 runs from Ireland. 

Muneeba’s record

Opener Muneeba created history on Wednesday after she scored a magnificent century in ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.

In the history of Pakistan’s women cricket, Muneeba became the first batter to score a century in a World Cup and T20 International. 

Muneeba has so far represented Pakistan in 30 WODI and 44 WT20I since her debut in 2016.

 After this win, Pakistan grabbed number three position in Group 2 which also includes India, West Indies and England. 

It must be noted that Pakistan lost their opening match against India by seven wickets.

Pakistan will now take on West Indies on February 19.
