Islamabad United captain, Shadab Khan, is focused on winning the third HBL PSL title for his franchise in the ongoing marquee tournament.
While speaking to Cricket Pakistan in an exclusive interview, the all-rounder said that he enjoys the responsibility that comes with a leadership role.
“I don’t have individual goals. Since I am the captain, I always want my team to win the game, regardless of whether I perform or not,” Shadab said.
“I am more focused when I am the captain because when you lead the side, you think more about the entire team than yourself. I enjoy captaincy and try to keep myself relaxed and the players,” he added.
Shadab added that most of his local and foreign players are in form, which will benefit them this season.
“All our players are ready since they have been playing in leagues around the world, so they have match practice and are in good form, so it is a positive sign. Hopefully, we will try our best to be the champions for the third time,” he said.
The 24-year-old also emphasized the need to follow a data-driven approach in modern-day T20 cricket.
“We try to adopt modern-day cricket. I believe in data and match-ups, so it helps us a lot as well. We struggled last year due to injuries, and our bench wasn’t strong enough, so we have tried to cover that,” he said.
Islamabad’s captain also handpicked three emerging players from his team who he believes can represent the Pakistan team.
“We have exciting emerging players like Hassan Nawaz, Zeeshan Zameer, and Mubasir Khan, who can be stars of Pakistan in the future,” he concluded.
