Shaheen Afridi Up Against Root & Bumrah for ICC Player of the Month

Pakistan’s express fast bowler, Shaheen Afridi, has been nominated for the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) player of the month award for August. Afridi has been nominated alongside the England Test captain, Joe Root, and the Indian fast bowler, Jasprit Bumrah.

The left-arm pacer was exceptional in the recently concluded Test series against West Indies. He picked up 18 wickets at an average of 11.27 in the two Test matches and helped Pakistan level the series 1-1. He picked up a ten-wicket haul in the second Test match and became the fourth-youngest Pakistani bowler to achieve the feat.

His magnificent bowling throughout the series helped him climb up the ICC Test bowler rankings as well. He moved up ten places and entered the top ten in the rankings after a player of the series performance in the Test series. He is currently placed at number 8 and is the highest-ranked Pakistani Test bowler in the world.

England captain, Joe Root, has been in the form of his life in 2021. He continued his magnificent display with the bat in the Test series against India. He has scored 507 runs at an average of 126.75, including three centuries and one half-century in the first three Test matches of the series played in August.

Root’s highly impressive display with the bat helped him climb to the summit of the ICC Test batsman rankings.

Similarly, Indian pacer, Jasprit Bumrah, has been exceptional for India, both with the ball and the bat. He picked up 14 wickets, including one five-wicket haul in the three matches played in August. His wonderful partnership with Mohammad Shami in the second Test helped India make a comeback and win the Test match.
