In a bid to ensure immediate registration of cases and investigations, Punjab Police on Monday decided to establish “Anti-Women Harassment and Violence Cells”.
Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP), Inam Ghani, addressed a video-link conference at the Central Police Office (CPO) during which he directed all the Regional Police Officers (RPOs) to ensure that Anti-Women Harassment and Violence Cells are set up across Punjab within a week and a public awareness campaign is run in this regard.
Punjab IGP said that DIG Operations Punjab will closely monitor the establishment of these cells in all the districts within the set timeframe and the DIG Investigation Punjab would ensure that every case is registered in these cells and would monitor the speedy investigation on merit.
The City Police Officers (CPOs) and District Police Officer (DPOs) will supervise these cells while a lady police personnel unit will work as the “Victim Support Officers” (VSOs) to provide support to the victims.
The VSOs will stay with the affected women during the course of the investigation and they will also be present during the trial hearing.
Besides, feedback will be taken from the victims in every case and it will be reviewed in detail in the supervisory officers’ meeting.
